What is cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is when kids use technology to hurt one another.  Cyberbullies use email, text messages, cell phones, photos, instant messages, videos and websites to hut and threaten.  It is quite easy because the cyberbully has no fear of being revealed.  The bullying can be done anonymously.

How common is cyberbullying?

According to wiredsafety.org, it is quite common.

  • 90% of middle school students have had their feelings hurt online.
  • 75% have visited a website that bashes another student.
  • 40% have had their passwords stolen and changed.
Have you ever been cyberbullied?  Do you know who to tell if you were?  Are you a cyberbully?  Do you ever say mean things to people online or on your cell phone?  You could be a cyberbully and not even know it!

Grades 4 & 8 will particpate in a post-assessment in May.  Those scores will also be sent home and reported to the NJDOE.

All students will work on lessons and activities thorughout the year that apply technology to what they are learning in math, language arts, social studies, science and world language.  Our goal is to equip our students with the technology skills they need for the 21st century.
